A handyman visit is rarely one job. It's a towel bar, a sticky door, a faucet cartridge and a TV mount, all in one afternoon. Most handymen bill a minimum charge or hourly labor plus materials, and list the tasks so the customer can see what got done.

What to put on a handyman invoice

Task list	One line per task, or a clear list in the description, shows what the hours paid for.
Hours on site	Decimal hours (2.75) at your hourly rate keep the math simple and honest.
Minimum charge	If your minimum applies, say so. It explains why a short visit costs what it does.
Materials	Separate materials from labor, and list the bigger items so the customer recognizes them.
Service address	Especially useful for landlords and property managers with several units.

Set a minimum charge and tell customers before you arrive. It protects you from losing money on short trips.
List every task, even the five-minute ones. Customers pay more happily when they see how much got done.

Should a handyman charge hourly or by the job?

Hourly works well for multi-task visits where each task is small. A flat price per job works for well-defined tasks you've done many times, like mounting a TV. Many handymen use both, depending on the job.

What is a minimum charge?

It's the least you'll bill for any visit, often one or two hours of labor. It covers drive time and setup for small jobs. State it upfront and show it on the invoice when it applies.

Can I mark up materials?

Many handymen add a modest markup to cover the time spent shopping and picking up materials. If you do, build it into the item price and be ready to explain it. Some customers prefer to buy materials themselves.

Do I need a license to work as a handyman?

It depends on your state and sometimes your city. Many places allow small repairs without a license but require one above a dollar amount or for plumbing, electrical and HVAC work. Check your state's contractor licensing board.
